Vocal production, step by step
Vocal production is everything that happens to a vocal before and inside the mix. It runs in a set order: record the takes, comp the best parts into one performance, clean and time it, tune it, then mix it with the beat.
Tuning or editing on its own is for artists who mix their own songs, or who work with another engineer: you get mix-ready vocals, comped, cleaned, timed and tuned, with nothing else done to them.

What is the difference between vocal production and vocal mixing?
Vocal production covers recording, comping, editing and tuning. Vocal mixing finishes the vocal with the beat. A Static City Studios vocal mix already includes cleanup and tuning.
Do I need vocal tuning, vocal editing, or a full vocal mix?
If you want a finished song, book Vocal Mixing. If you mix yourself, choose tuning for pitch, or editing and comping for choosing takes, cleanup and timing. Both are by quote.
What does mix-ready vocals mean?
Vocal files that are comped, cleaned, timed and tuned, but not yet mixed with the beat. They are what you hand to whoever mixes the song.
Can my vocals be produced online if I record at home?
Yes. Tuning, editing and mixing all work from files you send. Recording with Static City Studios' own rig is on the waitlist.
